WELD events are 2-day launches conducted under Tripoli Research Rules; participation is limited to Tripoli Members or their invited guests. Sport launches are open to both Tripoli and NAR members as well as non-affiliated flyers. Well-behaved spectators are welcome at all times.
* This schedule is as firm as it can be made, given that we are flying on farm land and must adapt our use of this property to the requirements of the farmers who own and work this land.
The field is the vast Paul/Hunnings farm near Bayboro, North Carolina with more than 3,800 acres of empty, treeless farm land. The FAA waiver is 16,000 feet, which we will limit to 12,000 feet for homemade motor flights without documentation for the same rocket with similar, characterized propellants.
Consult the website,
www.ColonialVirginiaHPR.org and click on "North Carolina" to see maps and directions to the site.Lodging for the 2-day events is currently at the BridgePointe Hotel and Marina in New Bern, NC. -877-283-7713. Runs around $95 a night for two double beds. After the bridge is finally open, things may change. We are looking for other places to stay. Call or email Alan for the current information [acwhit@nc.rr.com or 919-929-5552]
Ken Allen of Performance Hobbies will be on hand most weekends. Call him at 202-723-8257 with your orders. We have won the lawsuit with ATFE and Ken currently sells low, mid, and high-power motors from a variety of suppliers.
The launches are sponsored by Tripoli East NC, but all NAR members are welcomed with open arms! You do not need to be affiliated with either national organization to fly low or mid power motors (up to G size)
